Barcelona came from behind to beat Galatasaray 4-1 in the Champions League in Istanbul. They scored four unanswered goals and dominated almost every number on the stat sheet.
Galatasaray Hit the Front
The hosts started on the front foot in front of their home crowd and took the lead in the 28th minute. It was a rare moment of control for a Galatasaray side that would see little of the ball all night, and for a while it looked like Barcelona might be in for an awkward evening.
Barcelona Turn It Around
The response came just before the break. Barcelona leveled in the 43rd minute, a goal that changed the mood of the match, and they came out for the second half in full control. They went 2-1 up in the 50th minute and made it 3-1 just three minutes later in the 53rd, with the game effectively decided within minutes of the restart. Galatasaray made three changes in the 58th minute in an attempt to regroup, but Barcelona had the final word, scoring a fourth in the 65th minute to complete a 4-1 win.
Key Stats
The gap was huge. Barcelona had 65% possession and 23 shots, 12 of them on target, while Galatasaray managed just two shots all night, both on target. Barcelona forced eight saves from the Galatasaray goalkeeper and won six corners to the hosts’ one. Galatasaray also had two players booked, in the 64th and 86th minutes, while Barcelona finished without a yellow card.
Star Names on Show
Barcelona’s side featured Lamine Yamal, Anthony Gordon, Dani Olmo, Pedri, Rodri and Fermín López, with Joan García in goal. Galatasaray’s squad included Victor Osimhen, Rafael Leão and İlkay Gündoğan, but they were starved of the ball for most of the match.
What It Means
This is another emphatic Champions League performance from Barcelona, who beat Feyenoord 5-1 earlier in the campaign, and it keeps their season in good shape. They now face a much bigger test away at Paris Saint-Germain next week. For Galatasaray, an early lead and a crowd behind them were not enough, and two shots in 90 minutes against a team of this quality will be hard to explain.
